To our Riverton Neighbors and Extended Community Friends,
With careful consideration and heavy hearts, the Riverton 4th of July Committee canceled the typical slate of activities for 2020. We delayed this as long as was feasibly possible and finally had to make this difficult decision. We are determined, though, to retain some of the character of this unique Riverton tradition -- including a community picnic (one house at a time) and a beer festival.
We will still publish our 4th of July Commemorative Program Booklet, and volunteers will drop those on Riverton doorsteps just before the 4th. We owe a special thanks to all of our contributors, sponsors, businesses, and patrons. Your consistent support helps our events be the best that they can be -- whether they take place in 2020 or 2021.
Several events will look different this year. These include the House Decorating Contest, the Patriotic Costume Contest, and the Pet Pageant. All of these will be held without face-to-face interaction, with photos submitted, judging from afar, and postings on our website, Facebook, and Instagram. Prizes will be gift certificates from the hometown businesses we love to support. Watch for more details in the future.
We are very excited for these new events:
Family picnics in lawns or driveways at 4 p.m. on July 4th.
Our Fourthfest beer festival on Sept. 12 in Riverton; watch for details.
We are still considering the possibility of offering a 5K run that would not bring hundreds of people together at once, but would allow our loyal runners to participate in this annual tradition. Runners, keep your eyes posted on Facebook and our website.
It broke our hearts to make this difficult decision. Still, we are looking forward to seeing everyone pull out their storage bins and drape their houses in red, white, and blue. Riverton can still be the most patriotic town in this region!
